Erik Bryld is senior consultant, partner and managing director at Tana Copenhagen. He has more than a decade of solid experience working with governance, aid effectiveness and conflict mitigation and prevention in Africa and Asia. He has extensive experience as team leader in numerous formulations, reviews and evaluation missions.

Erik Bryld holds strong competencies in evaluation, policy, and programming. He masters identification, formulation, review and assessments of projects and programmes as well as analysis, studies and drafting of policy recommendation and implementation.

He has extensive experience as team leader and expert from working in multicultural settings and teams. In addition to his consultancies in Tana Copenhagen, Skadkaer Consult and COWI, Erik draws on his previous experience as an employee of UNDP, and the UN Secretariat, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark respectively.

Erik’s core thematic areas of work are governance, conflict prevention and aid effectiveness. Erik has worked extensively with governance from decentralisation to human rights and democratisation in
Africa and Asia. His work includes identification, formulation, review and evaluation of large as well as smaller scale good governance, justice, democratization, as well as decentralization programmes.

He has formulated programmes related to demand as well as supply side governance such as capacity development of civil society, ombudsman and human rights institutions (demand side), and local and central government planning, budgeting and service delivery (supply side).

He has experience in assessing the capacity of governance institutions at local and national level. Erik has broad experience with conflict prevention, mitigation and post-conflict interventions. He has undertaken analysis of the root causes of conflict and assessed the impact of governance programmes on conflict.

Assignments have included identification, studies, formulation and evaluations of donor strategies, recovery programmes and conflict mitigating interventions. Analyses undertaken have included issues pertaining to gender, ethnicity, refugees and internal displacement.

Erik promotes and assists governments and donors in the implementation of the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness and the Accra Agenda for Action. His work in this field has included review and analysis of policies and procedures of donor agencies, and the formulation of development assistance strategies.

He has in the past worked with national governments on alignment of donor interventions with government policies, procedures and systems, including the use of sector budget support; donor harmonization and coordination including the use of pooled funding mechanisms and trust funds.

He has extensive experience with analysis of PRSPs and aid modalities aimed at identifying opportunities for development programming in countries as diverse as Nepal, Sudan and Vietnam.
