Assessment of Rwanda State of Play in Agri-Trade under AFCFTA Initiative with an integrated regional community – recently finalised
GIZ appointed Tana to assess the status of the agri-food sector in Rwanda and its potential to drive the economic transformation of the country by leveraging the opportunities offered by the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA). The assessment examines specific high-potential agricultural commodities and products trade, focusing on key policy priorities for improving both export and import performance.
The overall objective of this national evidence-based study is to inform relevant policy actions and initiatives to boost Rwanda’s agri-trade on the continent, to become a trading hub in the region and to take a leading role in agri-trade initiatives under the AfCFTA. Improving competitive agri-trade under the AfCFTA needs to be based on strategic commodities scaling up the processes of value addition through agri- processing and industrialization.
